Bees are able to solve tasks that require them to distinguish between two stimuli - one that is similar to the original stimuli and one that is different (Giurfa et al. 2001; Chittka& Jensen 2011).
This form of association can be of benefit during navigation for foraging bees. For example, if one landmark is viewed along the navigational path during flight, it can trigger memories of further landmarks that will assist the bee to find the food source (Giurfa et al. 2001; Srinivasan 2010).
