Changing Nature of Food Sources
Bees have evolved the ability to accurately learn and remember colours, scents, shapes, patterns and navigational routes due to the changing nature of their food sources (Srinivasan 2010).
Flowers that contain high levels of nutrients are the food sources most required by bees, and as they have different bloom times, it is essential that bees remember multiple food sources and how to navigate to them (Srinivasan 2010). This has evolved to such an extent that bees are even capable of learning to navigate to different flowers at different times of the day (Fig. 7).
